Youth From Great Oaks Village Foster Care Attend ‘Afternoon Art with Appleton’ Event

Posted on: July 29th, 2009

Appleton Creative, an Orlando, FL based advertising agency, was proud to host a special charity youth event today in partnership with Great Oaks Village Foster Care Group Home. Appleton Creative’s team is on a mission to get kids actively involved in creativity early in life in order to express themselves through art. Appleton’s goal is to build a future generation of young creatives while helping kids in need.

Teams shared their expertise on interactive-web, video and print projects using the theme of ‘Afternoon Art with Appleton’ as their inspiration. The take-aways were significantly more than simply the projects. One of the 12 year old students preparing to enter 6th grade said, “My favorite part was making a collage and touring the amazing video suite. It’s good to see if you stay in school you can get a cool job!”

Great Oaks Village is comprised of a campus housing seven cottages and operational facilities for 84 children ages 6-18 who have been removed from their homes by the State of Florida. Great Oaks is committed to setting Central Florida children up for success in life by providing them with assistance in education, counseling and independent living preparation.

The ‘Afternoon Art with Appleton’ event was established by Diana LaRue, President and Creative Director as a way to tie her company to the community and the children she mentors.
