Remember those good ol’ MySpace days when you first entered the social media world? Back then MySpace had a peak of 100 million users, a groundbreaking statistic for the time, but suddenly MySpace lost popularity once it became flooded with annoying auto-play music and spam profiles. The public shifted to Facebook, which offered a cleaner design.
After years of Facebook dominance, MySpace co-owner, Justin Timberlake is at again. Not only with the debut of his new album, “The 20/20 Experience,” but also with the re-launch of an updated, slick and cool MySpace interface.
Here is our list of reasons why you may want to check out the new MySpace:
- Timberlake is bringing sexy back: MySpace is unrecognizable from its previous design. The website incorporates many visual design elements of other successful social media websites and added even more features. For example, the cover photos have a minimum size of 1,024 x 768 – the largest in social media thus far. Timberlake tweeted a link to a fabulous video preview for those who are interested.
- Digital music experiences: Timberlake also brought back the music element of “MySpace Classic” and improved upon it immensely. The new site has essentially become a digital music service similar to Pandora or Spotify, but with the interactivity of Facebook and Pinterest.
- Discovery: Pete Pachal from Mashable.com raved that MySpace had, “One of the best services for music discovery I’ve seen.” On the site a music player sits at the bottom of the screen and is easily controlled with a click of a mouse. The “discover” button introduces users with new music, mixes, and artists within your city.
- An Industry First: MySpace plans on a huge entertainment expansion with Panasonic, making it the first social media site with TV integration.
The potential for MySpace seems limitless, however, only time will tell if the celebrity-endorsed site will gain popularity as it projects.
