It is difficult to imagine the complex process of construction until you experience it for yourself. On Friday March 22, the Appleton Creative team put on hard hats and neon orange vests to get a glimpse of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, half-way through its completion. We were guided through concrete walls, dirt, and architectural models to envision the future of Orlando performing arts and education.
The design itself was impressive and rich in detail with its dramatic entrance, multiple theater spaces, VIP rooms, classrooms, and interchangeable sound technology. The construction is a production in itself with approximately 300 laborers, architects, engineers, and donors working together on a million different tasks with the grand finale in mind. The passion and excitement from all involved was simply contagious.
The Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts began construction on June 23rd, 2011 with the mission of building an urban destination that will involve the Orlando community in cultural arts and performance. It is a historical achievement for the city as one of the largest projects for the city, further emphasizing Orlando as a multifaceted destination to be enjoyed by locals and tourists. The project is scheduled for completion in the Summer of 2014. View this continuous progress as the construction continues through an active webcam.
