A 2003 Study showed that only 31% of college graduates can read a complex book and extrapolate from it. This is down from 40% in 1992. Only 41% of college students tested in the 2003 study could be classified as “proficient” in prose – reading and understanding information in short texts – down 10 percentage points since 1992.          – National Center for Educational Statistics (2005)
