The transition from high school to college is difficult for many students. In 1999, the dropout rate for the freshman to sophomore year in public four year colleges and universities was 33.3% (ACT: Newsroom: News Release: National College Dropout and Graduation Rates, 1999).

COMPASS Assessment:

A comprehensive assessment of the student’s functioning in academic and non-academic areas. The assessment is designed to provide a three-dimensional view of the college student with emphasis on understanding the individual’s unique strengths and challenges. In order to provide the most effective college coaching services, we first assess academic issues like achievement level, study skills and habits, organizational skills and time management abilities. We then assess key non-academic areas like commitment level, motivational level, general self concept, school integration and commitment, social support and involvement, and career/vocational choices. The COMPASS utilizes state of the art diagnostic tools, including the Neurolex QEEG report. The QEEGis used to assist in the diagnosis of ADHD through the measurement and analysis of brainwave patterns.

On-TRAC College Coaching

The primary goal of the On-TRAC College Coaching Program is to provide struggling students with support within their current college or university. We bring services to students.

On-TRAC College Coaching is designed for students who are struggling in college due to one or more academic or non-academic issues. These students are encouraged to stay in their current college or university and our staff provides supportive services on or near campus. The program is individually designed to meet the needs of each unique student.

The student is matched to a Lead Therapist and Peer Coach who, with the student, develop a RoadMap to Success; a detailed and specific action plan to assist the student in meeting his or her goals. The Lead Therapist and Peer Coach meet with the student on a frequent basis depending on the specific needs of the student. For example, the Lead Therapist might meet with the student for an hour a week while the Peer Coach may meet on a daily basis between classes, in the library or at the Student Union.  The student’s progress is monitored and the RoadMap is modified and adjusted constantly. In addition, our Peer Coaches are familiar with the supportive services of the student’s college or university and assist the student in utilizing these services.

Intensive College Coaching

This program’s primary goal is also to provide struggling students with individualized, custom support within their current college or university. However, it differs in the intensity of the assistance.

The students in this program are usually having a great deal of difficulty with one or more aspects of college life. Oftentimes they are on academic probation or have dropped out of college or are seriously considering doing so. In addition to the services provided by their Lead Therapist and Peer Coach, these students may also need assistance in life skills, time management, motivation, general self-concept, school commitment and emotional and/or cognitive problems. To gain a better understanding of the nature and extent of their difficulties these students may undergo more extensive testing and evaluation and the services may be more intense. Where available these students participate in our Student Support Center.

Supported Living

The Supported Living Transitions is designed for those students who need assistance in independent living. Oftentimes these students have recently completed a therapeutic program and are not yet ready to function independently. It is often difficult for these students to comply with discharge recommendations, cope with the stress of living independently and the academic and social pressures of college life.

The students in this program live in supported living units close to colleges and universities with roommates with common goals.  They attend school and receive a wide range of services in our Student Support Center, including planned social events, life skills training and house checks by On-TRAC staff.

The Supported Living Units provide the student the opportunity to apply what they learn to real life situations.  The Supported Living Program is not a “virtual campus” or an artificial environment. Our students live and study in a real college setting. They are responsible for managing their budgets, organizing their schedules and completing their obligations in school. We are there to provide them with the additional support they need. This “real life” setting better prepares them to live independently and succeed as adults.

How We Differ From Other Programs

There are a several programs available to students who are having difficulty adjusting to and succeeding in college. Unfortunately, most these programs require the student to transfer from their current college or university, move to another location and then enroll in a college close to the treatment program.  Other programs provide an “artificial environment” in which the student are “hand fed” and are not encouraged to develop their own problem solving and coping skills. On-TRAC believes that every effort should be made to keep the student at the college or university of their choice, and assist them in developing the skills they need to succeed in the real world. With On-TRAC we bring the program to the student.

In all of our programs we assess each student’s unique talents, abilities and needs. We then develop a program individually designed for that student with the specific goal of overcoming obstacles to college success. With On-TRAC we adjust our program to fit the student.

On-TRAC strives to provide our students with “real life” experiences and make every effort to encourage independent functioning.  Most colleges and universities offer excellent tutoring services. Unfortunately many students do not take advantage of these services.  Our students are assisted in utilizing the resources already available to them at their college or university, in the community or in other programs available to students. We strongly encourage and assist in security part-time employment, community and school involvement and social interaction with other students both within and outside the program.

Collaborative Aftercare

Many students need assistance when re-entering college upon discharge from treatment programs.

On-TRAC works collaboratively with a variety of treatment and therapeutic programs to provide their treatment teams with comprehensive and user-friendly aftercare services within the On-TRAC system.

Students may be referred by hospitals, residential treatment programs, transitional living programs and other therapeutic environments.

Our Team works hand-in-hand with the referring treatment team to implement the most comprehensive and individually customized discharge plan possible. We assist with reintegrating the student back into the academic institution, as well as the community.
