The Brain Crush event took the idea of an ordinary mixer and held it upright until all the blood rushed to its head. It was unique, stimulating and a plain-old good time that featured brain foods, Chia-tinis and a sensory-test that was not for dummies.

None other than Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer! The mayor came to our office to film a video interview promoting Zebra Coalition which is a LGBTQ-friendly network of services that we support.  Mayor Dyer spoke with Executive Director Anthony Armstrong about the importance of the Coalition in our city, and his hopes for the future of the organization.

While touring our office, Dyer paused to reflect on the Giving Circle ™ art piece created by owner Diana LaRue in the Appleton Awareness Gallery. The gallery is dedicated to showcasing art that brings needed attention to many the local causes that are near and dear to us all.

These recipients will be honored for their charitable contributions to the cause in our community.

The gala, slated for October 1 at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Studios, will raise funds that will go towards research to find a cure for juvenile diabetes. The cars were judged on factors such as gas mileage. Our team helped sponsor a Shell Eco Car built by Benton (LA) High School’s team, which included Appleton family members Matt and Kevin LaRue. The Benton eco-car got 516 MILES PER GALLON – wow!!!

While our team at Appleton Creative was happy to see Orlando businesswomen come together for such an empowering event, we were especially thrilled that our Creative Director and Owner  Diana LaRue was asked to participate on a panel to discuss how she became such a successful entrepreneur. The speaker was Cari Coats who moderated the panel  of four women, three of which are part of the Rollins College Athena Powerlink Program. The event was a platform for local women business owners to create new leadership opportunities for up and coming women-run businesses.  LaRue lectured on the tactics and skills she used to grow Appleton Creative into the successful company it is today. The Coalition is comprised of many local organizations that assess and support youth in need of shelter, emotional or spiritual guidance, medical services, or education—regardless of their personal, economic or social circumstances. Appleton’s Creative Director Diana LaRue sits on the board of the Coalition and is actively involved in all aspects of the organization’s humanitarian efforts.

Zebra House

Recently, the Coalition acquired an official home in downtown Orlando, known as Zebra House. Coalition staff will operate from the multi-purpose facility, which will be used to temporarily accommodate homeless youth overnight while their needs are being assessed. The house will also be used as a meeting space for local organizations, such as Orlando Youth Alliance and the Center for Drug-Free Living. Zebra House will be fully operational in a few short months, but it was missing one last piece of the puzzle—furniture!  Zebra Coalition held a special fundraiser this week, specifically designed to generate donations to furnish the organization’s new home. With help from the marketing services of Appleton Creative, the event was a huge success and raised enough to supply beds, office furniture, and the many other items needed to make the Coalition both operational and an inviting space for youth in need of comfort. We look forward to the next event with Zebra Coalition, and are happy to support their noble cause.

• Flyer/Postcard for a direct mail piece
• Invitation Design for a themed event

Appleton also placed third in the Web Design (non-flash) category for its design of the recently launched Baker Barrios Architects website.

Client: The Orlando Sentinel

Blast from the Past: Appleton Creative produced this video for The Orlando Sentinel and The Orange County Historical Society.  Many photos were shot on location at the Historical Society in 1994 right before they moved into a larger building in downtown Orlando. The video was meant to educate Central Floridians on the history of the city of Orlando and surrounding communities.

Client: Walt Disney World Company Multi Media Group

Blast from the Past: In 1997, Walt Disney World was about to debut the Animal Kingdom Theme Park. The showpiece of the park is the Tree of Life, and all avenues to attractions in the park curve around the tree. Appleton Creative edited time-lapse footage together for monitors in one of Disney’s opening exhibits. The video details the amount of work is involved when designing and constructing such a large centerpiece.
