Doug is a punctual people-person who has used his business-oriented attitude and positive personality to lead projects and accounts at a selection of top Orlando agencies. He began his career at Quantum Leap Advertising, specializing in the managing department for all of the agency’s hospitality accounts. While his main interest had always been account management, Doug also used his time at Quantum Leap to immerse himself in the world of search engine optimization (SEO), learning the value in performing keyword research and using it to elevate websites’ organic search rankings.
Following his experience with the team at Quantum Leap, Doug secured a position on the account management team at the world’s largest integrated travel and tourism marketing firm, MMGY Global. While working in MMGY’s Orlando office, Doug assisted the accounts team with planning for large-scale campaigns, such as the “This is CLE” campaign for the City of Cleveland, which led to an increase of more than 625,000 new tourists the year it launched. Before he left MMGY, Doug also worked to fulfill all the creative needs for the annual tourism campaign to promote the cultural experiences provided by the St. John County CVB.
Doug’s next move was joining the team at Patterson Bach Communications working on the account management and social media teams. Doug worked with an assortment of PBC’s clients, including the City of Cocoa Beach, MetroWest Master Association, Sarasota Technological Institute and the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority on a multitude of projects, ranging from the development of way-finder signage to website updates and the development of digital branding strategies.
Doug then transitioned into an account management role at digital creative agency, Push, prior to joining the Appleton team. He was responsible for conducting a large part of the public relations efforts for a campaign for the Florida Beer Company, which ultimately led to the attendance of high-profile guests and Florida business owners at the grand opening. Doug also utilized his knowledge of SEO to help clients ascend to the first listing on Google. After a few months working with the digital marketing team, Doug stumbled upon a new passion — copywriting. Once he proved his abilities as a wordsmith during a brainstorming session, Doug expanded his portfolio by writing billboard copy for Valencia College and Facebook advertisements for Mears Transportation.
Today, as a strategic communications manager at Appleton, Doug holds the role of primary liaison between clients and the agency for several key accounts including Florida Lawyers Mutual Insurance Company, Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association and Seaside National Bank & Trust, among others. While there is no such thing as a “typical day” in the life of a communications professional, some of Doug’s main responsibilities at Appleton include acquisition of new business, hosting of all internal and external communication, project management from initiation to finalization, the management and coordination of production schedules, and meeting other daily objectives and deadlines. Fueled by the ambition to attain unparalleled excellence, Doug’s goal-oriented work ethic assures that deadlines are met and results are achieved.
When he’s not involved with client services as an Appletonian, Doug loves to push his limits in the gym, explore new cities and spend quality time with his beloved dog and girlfriend.
What’s at the top of your bucket list?
I would really love to participate in a ride to space. New-age companies, like Virgin Galactic, are making it realistically affordable to travel to the outer limits of Earth's atmosphere and I just find that so divine. Other than that, I just want to be a really great dad with a nice house that is my own personal sanctuary.
