Powering Up OUC’s EV Charging Campaigns

What does it take to get EV drivers to stop scrolling and start charging?

For Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC), the answer was more than simply putting its ReCharge Mobility Hubs on the map. As OUC expanded its network of electric vehicle charging options across Orlando, it needed to make sure local EV owners, renters, and visitors knew where to find them…and why they should make the stop.

Putting EV Charging on the Map

For more than a century, OUC has helped power Central Florida. Today, The Reliable One is helping power the way Orlando moves, too, with EV charging hubs designed to make electric transportation more accessible and convenient.

OUC partnered with Appleton Creative to build awareness of its ReCharge Mobility Hubs and encourage more EV drivers to use them.

Our team developed location-based digital campaigns across Meta and Google, combining targeted strategy with creative tailored to each hub. While the campaigns shared the same overall goal, we knew the creative shouldn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach.

Instead, each location received its own look, feel, and messaging based on its audience, surroundings, and key benefits. The result was a cohesive campaign that still gave drivers something fresh to see.

A Bright Idea for the Robinson Hub

For the OUC ReCharge Mobility Hub at Robinson, we kept things light—lliterally.

The creative direction featured a bright, clean palette of white and green with warm pops of color, giving the campaign an upbeat, approachable feel. Playful animation and a catchy jingle helped turn practical information into content designed to grab attention in the feed.

Within seconds, EV drivers could see what mattered most: where the hub was located, how many chargers were available and where they could go to power up.

The concept proved that utility information doesn’t have to feel, well, utilitarian.

It also caught the attention of the judges. The Robinson Hub campaign earned a 2025 Gold Davey Award, recognizing the creative approach behind the digital campaign.

A Different Kind of Energy at OCCC

For the ReCharge EV Hub at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC), we shifted gears from the Robinson campaign’s bright daytime aesthetic to something sleeker and more sophisticated.

The evening-inspired creative played off the hub’s location near Orlando’s attractions, entertainment and nightlife, positioning OCCC as a convenient place for EV drivers to recharge while staying close to the action.

Designed for a broad audience of EV owners, renters, residents and travelers, the campaign paired a polished look with straightforward messaging that made finding a charge feel like an easy part of an Orlando itinerary.

Creative That Goes the Distance

Together, the Robinson and OCCC campaigns show what can happen when a shared strategy leaves room for creative flexibility.

As the campaigns rolled out, more drivers discovered OUC’s charging locations through Google Maps, PlugShare, and OUC’s Google Business Profile. The increased visibility and engagement helped support greater use of the hubs while reinforcing OUC’s reputation as a reliable, forward-thinking energy provider.

And for Appleton, the work demonstrates something we believe about every campaign: effective creative isn’t just about getting noticed. It’s about understanding the audience, finding the right message, and giving people a reason to act.

Whether you’re introducing a new service, building awareness, or looking to recharge your marketing strategy, Appleton’s full-service team brings strategy, creative, digital marketing, media buying, social media, web design, and video production together under one roof.
